A Thoughtful Approach to Complex Healing

Meet the Founder

I’m Jayla Harrison, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Founder of Rooted & Rising Counseling and Wellness.

My work is grounded in clinical depth, cultural awareness, and a genuine commitment to helping people feel understood within the full context of their lives. As a Black woman clinician shaped by my upbringing on the South Side of Chicago, I bring an informed perspective on how identity, community, family systems, and systemic experiences influence emotional well-being and the way we navigate relationships, stress, and personal growth.

I founded this practice to create a therapy space that feels intentional, affirming, and deeply human—one where clients do not have to separate who they are from the care they receive. My goal is to provide therapy that honors both the complexity of mental health and the importance of cultural understanding, offering support that is thoughtful, nuanced, and rooted in real connection.

Clinical Background & Training

As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), I bring advanced clinical training and a strong foundation in psychological assessment, treatment, and culturally responsive care. I earned my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Counseling Practice from Roosevelt University and am currently a doctoral student in the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology.

My professional background includes experience across community mental health, behavioral intervention, and work with diverse and underserved populations. I have supported individuals navigating a wide range of emotional, relational, and behavioral concerns, including neurodivergence such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. These experiences have shaped a practice that values accessibility, cultural responsiveness, and care that honors each client’s unique lived experience.

My training also includes a Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from Arizona State University, which has expanded my understanding of behavior, learning, and evidence-based intervention. In addition, I have completed Systemic Supervision Training, strengthening my ability to support emerging clinicians through reflective, ethical, and relationally informed guidance.

Specialized Focus Area

I have a particular clinical interest in supporting individuals navigating mood-related concerns, including depression and bipolar spectrum experiences, as well as those working through personality disorders and long-standing relational dynamics that can impact self-esteem, boundaries, and connection with others. I also have a strong focus on neurodivergence and behavioral functioning, including supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, with an emphasis on understanding strengths, challenges, and lived experience beyond diagnostic labels. In addition, I am deeply committed to working with trauma, including complex trauma and the impact of systemic, relational, and environmental stressors over time, with a focus on helping clients make meaning of their experiences while moving toward greater stability, agency, and emotional clarity.

My Approach

Therapy with me is intentional, collaborative, and insight-driven. I work from an eclectic, integrative approach, drawing on a range of theoretical orientations and evidence-based practices tailored to each client’s unique needs, goals, and lived experiences. This allows therapy to remain flexible and responsive rather than one-size-fits-all, with the work shaped by what will be most effective and meaningful for you at each stage of the process.

Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, we also move toward a deeper exploration of patterns, relationships, emotional experiences, and the ways your environment and history have shaped how you see yourself and connect with others, creating space for insight, change, and sustained growth.
